Foot Orthotics / insoles are prescribed to alleviate pain and discomfort in many conditions. The aim of orthotics is to help your foot into the best position biomechanically and control the movement. Orthotics are prescribed for most common conditions such as low arches (flat feet/pes planus), high arches (pes cavus), ankle & foot arthritis, foot pain (plantar fasciitis, heel pain, metatarsalgia), Achilles tendon pain, calf pain, shin splints, knee pain and sports related pain in lower limbs.
We do a comprehensive assessment of lower limb biomechanics and evaluate your lower limb muscle strength & length, lower limb joint movements and foot movements during gait cycle. Prior to orthotics prescription, we consider your weight bearing foot posture, foot type, duration and site of the symptoms, occupational and sporting activities, choice of footwear, cost and if any existing medical conditions like diabetes.
In some cases, simple stretching and strengthening exercises alone is enough to alleviate symptoms and may not need any foot orthotics. We take great care not to overprescribe foot orthotics. In many cases, additional stretching and strengthening exercises are needed as an adjunct to the orthotics.
After a comprehensive evaluation, we prescribe prefabricated / off the shelf foot orthotics or customised foot orthotics. For customised orthotics, we use foot sketches and in some cases plaster/foam box mould. These sketches and moulds along with the prescription are sent to specific orthotics manufacturer for production.
There is no fixed price for orthotics and the cost may vary depending on the requirement and complexity of foot condition.
